I know I shouldn’t complain..and I’m not, but it’s hot outside. That means it’s shorts weather. I should have started that silly diet two months ago, not 1 and a half weeks. Hubby is doing great on his diet. He has lost 11 pounds! Me? I lost…umm… 2. OKAY OKAY! I have lost almost two pounds. I round up, so there! I have not been cheating I promise. The bag full of Easter candy that is hiding in the closet is still untouched. Which brings me to another question. How on Earth do my kids not notice all the candy disappeared? When I was a kid I guarded my candy with my life! I knew exactly what I had at any given time. Kids today just don’t have an appreciation for the tasty things in life.

Locked Up In La Mesa
Eldon Asp
(37 Reviews)
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs
FREE for a limited time
In the freewheeling ’70s, La Mesa Penitentiary was a prison unlike any other, a colorful little pueblo on the east side of Tijuana that was home to the worst criminals imaginable, and their entire families. Everything was controlled by the inmates, and the world they created was a bizarre reflection of the one they’d left behind:
There was a bustling business district complete with stores and restaurants, a prison laundry staffed by transvestite hookers and a babysitting service run by a schizophrenic murderer. Weekend fiestas brought drunken partiers to the prison, along with masked wrestlers and strolling mariachis. La Mesa at the time was both a deadly powder keg and a nonstop party, a temple of vice where the inmates had better guns than the guards, a place where anything could happen.
“Locked Up In La Mesa” is the true story of Steve Peterson, a young California surfer dude caught smuggling pot in the hills outside Tijuana. In thirty-four short stories of black humor and bittersweet humanity, Steve, together with writer Eldon Asp, recalls his hilarious adventures and scary close calls inside the most notorious prison in Mexico…

An adrenaline-charged tale of unrelenting suspense that sparks with raw and savage energy… The newspapers scream out headlines that spark terror across the city. Ten murders on the New York City subway. Ten grisly crimes that defy all reason, no pattern, no m.o., no leads for police to pursue. The press dubs the fiend the “Subway Psycho”; the NYPD desperately seeks their quarry before the city erupts in mass hysteria. But they won’t find what they’re looking for.
Because they all think that the killer is human.
Only a few know the true story, a story the papers will never print. It is a tale of abject terror and death written in grit and steel… and blood. The tale of a man who vanished into the bowels of the urban earth one night, taken by a creature of unholy evil, then left as a babe abandoned on the doorstep of Hell. Now he is back, driven by twin demons of rage and retribution.
He is unstoppable. And we are all his prey… unless a ragtag band of misfit souls will dare to descend into a world of man-made darkness, where the real and unreal alike dwell in endless shadow. A place where humanity has been left behind, and the horrifying truth will dawn as a madman’s chilling vendetta comes to light…
Filled with gripping drama and harrowing doomsday dread, The Light at the End is the book that ushered in a bold new view of humankind’s most ancient and ruthless evil; a mesmerizing novel from two acknowledged masters of spellbinding suspense.
