My friend just told me the new obstacle event that she wants to try gives out Viking helmets to participants. Now I just want to go for the helmet. Hubby Basset said that is the equivalent to a kid wanting to go to McDonald’s because of the Happy Meal, not the food. Get real…it’s a Viking helmet!

“Refreshingly original, vividly engaging, suspenseful and action-packed from start to finish.”
Legions of Roman soldiers, dead for nearly 2,000 years, rise from their graves, under London’s streets, with an insatiable desire for vengeance, and a ravenous thirst for human blood.
When conventional weapons fail to destroy them, the nation’s only hope lies with a few seemingly ordinary men and women who are willing to risk their lives in a battle against the living and the dead. They have just hours to find out why the Romans have returned and recover the one relic that can send this invincible army back to hell. If they fail, they will be the last heroes Britain will ever have, because the nation’s proud history will come to a devastating and cataclysmic end.

The Savage Heart of Palermo is a fast paced crime thriller, with dark humour and an upbeat love story. It tells the tale of Joe Kelly, a young Irish-Italian-American, who flees from the States to Palermo, the traditional heartland of the Mafia. He is escaping from a troubled past in a poor crime ridden district of Chicago.
Joe’s mother was Sicilian, but she was killed in a botched mugging when he was very young. Coming to Sicily is a way for him to feel close to her and discover a little about who she was.
Coming down from drugs and desperate to turn his life around completely, he donates half of this money to charity and uses the rest to set up his new life on what he thinks will be a Mediterranean paradise.
Soon enough, he discovers that Palermo is no easier than the place he ran away from. After almost two decades of relative quiet the Mafia is once again ready to rear its ugly head in Palermo. This new breed of Cosa Nostra is not entirely like the cool calculated one we all remember from the Godfather.

Genre: Cookbooks, Food & Wine

When you envision the perfect bowl of steamy, delicious soup, what comes to mind? Is it the soup your mother or grandmother used to make from scratch using fresh vegetables and fresh beef or chicken simmered in a savory broth with just the right mixture of herbs and garlic? Maybe your dream soup is a thick, rich bowl of New England Clam Chowder. Or maybe it’s a nice can of condensed soup that you add a can of water to and Voila – you have your favorite soup. What? Scratch that last one because you won’t find any of that in this book. You will, however, find the first two.
You will find 26 soup recipes with some of the classic soups like Chicken Noodle Soup, Southern Style Vegetable Soup, Cheddar Cheese and Potato Soup, Seafood Gumbo, Minestrone and many more. Some are fairly quick to make, but some take time. I do not apologize for that. If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right. Plan ahead and make the ones that take longer to prepare on the weekends. Most of these soups freeze beautifully, so it is the “cook once, serve three times” philosophy. You’ll thank me for that once you get the hang of it.
You will also find 12 recipes in the salad section including salad, crouton and vinaigrette recipes and suggestions to round out your delicious soups and stews.
The recipes in this book will have the number of servings, preparation time and total time from start to finish. Your time may vary if you are just starting to learn to cook. There is also a nutritional analysis with each recipe calculated using the USDA database, Version SR-24. A nutritional analysis is very important if you have any diet restrictions or if you are trying to lose weight.
Cooking Tips and Techniques have been included to help new cooks get their bearings in the kitchen. I hope seasoned cooks can pick up a useful tidbit or two also.
I hope you enjoy I’ll Have The Soup And Salad and find many useful ideas for feeding your family and friends.
