Because California is in a terrible drought, having a green lawn is frowned upon. I however do not want to give up my lawn. My kids play in it and hubby and I put a lot of work into it. So here I am, working hard to keep my lawn alive, but also make sure it has a socially acceptable amount of brown in it. Too green and you are a waster of water and selfish, too brown and my kids wont play in it and get the necessary exercise they need and I become a bad mom. Oh forget it! I’m going to go relax in the garden and drink a cool beverage. Hmmm…those roses need trimming.

Lineages and Lies: A Nick Herald Genealogical Mystery
Jimmy Fox
(36 Reviews)
Genre: Mystery, Thriller & Suspense
FREE for a limited time
In Lineages and Lies, Jimmy Fox has created an intricate, gripping tour de force of genealogical mystery—a worthy successor to his acclaimed first Nick Herald novel, Deadly Pedigree.
Nick Herald doesn’t go looking for trouble. Really. He’s just a struggling, not-so-humble professional genealogist trying to make a decent, mostly honest, living in New Orleans, a city where masquerade is second nature, where for centuries secrets have grown on family trees like rotten fruit. Genealogy should celebrate life, allow us to pay homage to our forebears and their sacrifices. But that’s not how things work in Fox’s fascinating fiction: Nick invariably finds himself mired in murderous perversions of normally quite healthy curiosity about Louisiana family origins. Nick always expects to discover interesting and sometimes disturbing genealogical facts in the complex tapestry of the area’s rich history. Clients usually take the good and the bad in their family trees with good grace.
But Nick understands immediately that something more sinister is at work when an old friend and colleague is brutally murdered at a posh French Quarter hotel, and other gruesome murders follow. He vows to lift the veil of deadly mystery surrounding a lineage society whose members trace their ancestry back to a ship that sailed into colonial New Orleans.

(17 Reviews)
Genre: Action & Adventure | Historical Fiction
FREE for a limited time
The Winds of Dalmatia is Tanja Tuma’s brilliant, epic, intriguing, and well-crafted novel dedicated to those who’ve followed the headlines from the Bosnian war yet may not fully comprehend the terrible individual suffering that transpired in the lives of its victims.
It’s the first book of Tuma’s Balkan trilogy. Fans should note that the second book will travel north to Istria and Slovenia, and in the third, east to Serbia, Kosovo, and Macedonia.
The plot of Winds of Dalmatia is sweeping, grand, romantic, and beautiful.
Maria Perić has gone through her personal hell during the Balkan war and survived. Now in her sixties, she leads a comfortable life managing a hotel on a quiet island, and raising her beloved Paula. Her past is as shady as the source of her wealth. When Paula falls ill with leukemia, there’s only one way to save her — Maria must tell the truth, and Paula must face the Serbian war criminal awaiting his verdict from the International Criminal Tribunal at the Hague Hilton.
In her spare time, Maria escapes reality by researching the history of her homeland Dalmatia. Her historical saga begins with a Greek colony in the Sixth Century B.C. on the isle of Korčula, followed by a chapter on the Roman times, the era of the Emperor Diocletian, born in Dalmatia.
Her research moves to Dubrovnik, as the mighty Republic of Ragusa blooms in the Fourteenth Century, challenging the Venetians in the Adriatic. The Fifteenth Century witnesses the Ottoman Empire bring Islam to the hinterland of Dalmatia. Readers will thrill to the intrigues of a harem where a young rebellious wife and a eunuch long for freedom and love.
As World War I demands more soldiers, a mother decides to commit her beloved son to the safety of the Blaca monastery on the island of Brač, which saves him from the front. Yet the mother still loses him, and her wrath is terrible.

Roamer: A Lost to Found Rescue Dog Story
Michael Delaware
(10 Reviews)
Genre: Children’s eBooks | Crafts, Hobbies & Home
FREE for a limited time
The Story of Roamer is about a rescue dog.The description of ‘Rescue dogs’ is a common vernacular for any dog that is lost or stray and which is ultimately saved through adoption, usually by means of an animal shelter or rescue organization. For a person to save a rescue dog means to give a life to not only the dog, but also to share in the joy, love and devotion that our canine friends bring to the world.
Roamer is more than just a Rescue Dog story, is a portrayal of the plight of animals who suffer following natural disasters or when they are abandoned and left to roam without a loving home to take care of them.
Dogs bring love to their owners in ways that sometimes non-pet owners do not fully sense or possess until they adopt one of their own.So the story of Roamer could also be described as an introduction to animal rescue for those who have never examined it in their lives, and what it ultimately means for the dog.
The story: Roamer is a dog who is troubled by a past he cannot fully remember, and haunted by the long lost memories of the ones he loved following the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina.
Can he survive and find his way as a stray in the aftermath of losing all that is familiar to him?
Will he find again the ones he loved?
In his life as a stray he experiences abuse, suffering and also friendship against the backdrop of an ocean current filled with hope and dreams.
An original story written by Michael Delaware that touches on the plight of stray animals following natural disasters. It is a message of hope and compassion. Profits from the sales of this book will go to support animal rescue organizations.
