Yesterday my partner in crime and I did a hive inspection to see what our sweet little bees have been up to. The first thing we noticed was there were a lot of bees flying around the entrance. I mean A LOT! Kinda intimidating really. My instincts tell me to stay away from that many bees, but experience (and a few of you guys) have taught me that if I stay calm all will be fine. It also helps to stay out of their flight path. They don’t like it when you get in their way. So we took a deep breath, and we opened it up! Happy bees and fresh comb! They are building and producing honey! SUCCESS! There were a few places where the comb was being build crooked so we had to bend it back a bit. We also cut off a small chunk that, to our delight, was filled with honey. Satisfied with the inspection we closed up the hive and quickly gathered the baby bassets, including my partner in crime’s son, and prepared to enjoy our first taste of the honey we made. It…tasted…WONDERFUL! We had to fight off three grabby little boys for a piece, but what a delight.
