If my sweet chickies ever want to go out on the town and meet a few single roosters, Walgreens is the place to go. I have mentioned before that the Walgreens in my town has a few chickens roaming about, but I think it has gotten way out of hand now. I counted at least fifteen roosters strutting their stuff in the parking lot. Beautiful roosters to. These guys were gorgeous and they knew it. They owned that parking lot. Cars got out of their way, not the other way around. With all the farm animals we have running around this town (and that includes the goat at Starbucks) I am getting the uneasy feeling they might be plotting a takeover. I will keep you up to date on that situation.

Lea knew what the land folk were good for – very little. They stumbled around awkwardly on spindly legs and smelled of sweat and dung. She preferred the open freedom of the ocean. To be able to plunge hundreds of feet into its shadowy depths or to ride in exhilaration along a cascading wave. But today’s waves were different. A torrential storm pounded the coastline as she desperately pushed north to reach her sisters. On her hip was an urgent message. And nothing could stop her from reaching her destination. Until she realized a young boy clung desperately to his currach, and a towering wave was about to shatter him into tiny pieces…
Half of all proceeds of the Selkie Tales short stories benefit battered women’s shelters. While this first book is non-explicit, due to the strong sexual content and adult situations in future books, this romantic suspense series is recommended for readers aged 17+. The series is structured for readers to read along as I write them to offer feedback and suggestions on the complex storyline.

SOME MEAN-ASS CHICKENS COME HOME TO ROOST in this EIGHTH entry in the Tubby Dubonnet series.
The laid-back New Orleans lawyer finds himself caught in a twisted trip down memory lane, distracted by a luscious new love, and, as usual, surrounded by screwball denizens of everybody’s favorite city. But he’s also caught in someone’s crosshairs, and so are half the cast of crazies and screwballs. Which makes for a delicious mix of danger and humor (with a dash of romance!), best consumed with a tall cold one and a bag of Zapp’s Spicy Cajun Crawtators.
When in the 1970s a young war protester is killed in broad daylight on Canal Street, it appears that his murder will be forgotten, a back page story lost in the big news of an especially violent era. But a youthful Tubby chanced to see it happen, and the tragic event’s haunted him throughout his life. Decades later, an established (but not exactly driven) lawyer, yet successful enough to have time on his hands, Tubby decides to conduct his own investigation into the forgotten crime. He quickly stirs up a hornets’ nest of far-reaching political feuds, police corruption, government agents, and old men with secrets to hide. But as in all Tubby Dubonnet novels, the plot takes a backseat to local color, colorful characters, odes to fine food, wry observations, and a whole lot of humor. It’s a little like spending a weekend in da Big Easy, dawlin’–complete with three well-chosen meals a day!

Genre: Science Fiction

It started with an attack on a research station near the frontier region, the furthest portion of the Outer Sphere of Unified space. Then, one by one, subsequent border systems began to fall victim to the unknown attackers. Months went by before anyone in the Unified Collaboration of Systems realized what was happening. By then, it was too late. The Kafaran had arrived. The fighting between the two factions raged on for nearly five years. Hundreds of thousands perished, and millions of innocent beings lost their homes. Then, nearly as quickly as the war had started, the Kafaran’s inexplicably retreated to an unexplored region of space. Even with their once expansive foothold in the Milky Way now lying in ruins, it seemed to the once peaceful UCS that victory was finally theirs. Now, it was time to rebuild. With the Galactic War now five years in the past, former fighter pilot Shawn Kestrel wasn’t nearly as content in his peacetime life as he could have been. Not only was his fledgling cargo business steadily losing customers, his lone interstellar transport was fatally incapacitated, the victim of a now all too common pirate attack. Without warning, the prudish daughter of his former commanding officer appears, informing Shawn that William has mysteriously disappeared — apparently the victim of foul play. And, as if things weren’t difficult enough, a Unified Sector Command carrier quickly arrives to assert the Unified government’s own self-guided interests into the disappearance. As Shawn endeavors to put all of the pieces together, one thing becomes terrifyingly clear: the Kafaran’s are no longer idle. With the government suspiciously pressing down on him from one side, and the beautiful and enigmatic daughter driving him on from the other, Shawn Kestrel must search deep within himself to decide where his past and present loyalties lie before the universe once again erupts into all-out war.

This is a novella. When Emily Palmer finds herself in the waiting area of the labour ward with an irate mother-to-be, she recounts the story of how she happens to be there, alone, to calm the situation. Her bizarre courtroom tale, of the oddest custody battle in history, gives her reason to reflect on the outcome of her child’s future happiness on the small decision of her birth name.
