Reason number 73 to have kids is to use them as giant teddy bears when you are watching the scary shows you know you are not supposed to watch. I have hit a new low. I was getting so freaked out by the show, Stranger Things, that my screaming attracted my curious nine year old baby basset to the room. Instead of shooing him away, because he is too young to watch the such things and he still had tons of homework to do, I dragged him onto the couch and got him caught up on what was happening. So there we both were, two people who get nightmares from even the silliest things, watching a scary show on TV. It wasn’t long before we were both screaming at the TV and freaking out. I covered his eyes through any scenes I thought might be bad, but now that I am thinking about it, I don’t remember anything all that graphic. The show doesn’t even really have to show you anything gruesome, it plants the thoughts in your head! Well, I am happy to say I did not have any nightmares last night, so crossing my fingers my oldest basset didn’t either, we will both be on the couch tonight screaming at the TV.

Food is the defining force in every culture in the world. When we think about culture, we think about food. Although there are some who think of food as just our nourishment, it is so much more than that. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world; people are brought together over food. Whether it’s around the kitchen table for family dinner, walking around at a summer solstice festival, a friend’s wake or in a restaurant as a tourist in a foreign land, the food we eat defines us, makes us better and gives us a sense of difference, creativity, and new experiences. Food is who we are.
