It’s not too often I have business 10 minutes north up to the highway. So when I do head up that way a few months would have past since the last time. In October when the fires hit Sonoma County, the devastation was heartbreaking. Trees, homes, roads, historical landmarks, people’s lives, all burned to the ground, and an eerie blackness was left behind. I actually avoided going North because it was so heartbreaking, but also because there was so much work to do up there that the less congestion the better. Yesterday I drove through the area. The hills were green again and most of the burned buildings were gone, replaced by new ones. The words that empowered so many of us, “Sonoma Strong” and “The Love In The Air Is Thicker Than The Smoke” repeated over and over in my head. It was a beautiful thing to see that those words were not empty. Every day I see people still helping those who were affected. The fires are not the big story anymore, so you would think that people who weren’t directly affected would just move on with their lives. But they didn’t. They are still helping. So many helpers.
