Having survived careers in both the Army and the FBI, Ryan Archer is now content to live a quiet life in a tiny apartment above a surf shop in Santa Cruz, California. He has few possessions and few friends. He works part-time in the little shop downstairs, and spends most of his free hours out on the open water with just his board and the waves. But he is about to be pulled back into action by a voice out of one of his former lives.

He is asked to keep a woman named Lindsay Hammond alive for the next 72 hours, as an army of street thugs, career criminals and professional assassins press in around them from every direction. As they go off the grid, surviving minute to minute, cutting off all contact with the outside world, Lindsay learns to trust Archer in a way she has never trusted anyone before.

Do you have what it takes to survive?

Ben Davis was prepared for disaster. He just didn’t know it would come so soon.

He and his teenage son, Joel, are miles deep in the backcountry of the San Juan Mountains when high-altitude nuclear electromagnetic detonations light up the pre-dawn sky. Ben, Joel, and their dog, Gunner, must make their way home – or to whatever’s left of it – on foot.

Without the ability to communicate with his ex-wife in Maryland, Ben has no idea if Joel’s brother and sister are okay. The two decide they have no options but to head East. Before their journey begins, they venture into town to check Ben’s outdoor store for supplies and discover one of Joel’s classmates, Allie, alone and in desperate need of help.

When Ben realizes Allie’s flight attendant mother is most likely dead and her father lives in Pittsburgh, he knows he has to take her with them. Ben must use the skills he learned as an Army Ranger many years ago to survive the post-apocalyptic world they now live in.

Can he keep himself and two teenagers safe as they navigate the dark and dangerous road ahead?

A sassy, sexy, and smart small-town romp… with recipes!

If you loved Northern Exposure or other quirky small-town stories of community and friendship, you’ll love Wishing Rock!

After a shattering breakup, Ruby Parker was looking for a new place to call home. She found it in the tiny one-building town called Wishing Rock.

The Wishing Rock Series: Wit, Wisdom, and Recipes!

In this first book in the Wishing Rock series (written as emails), readers are introduced to Ruby Parker. Here she is in her own words:

To: Reader
From: Ruby Parker
Subject: Wishing Rock

Hey,

You’ve been there, right? You’re in love, you think the other person is too, you’re engaged, even, and then wham! out of left field he goes and breaks it off and it hurts so bad you just want to get away and start fresh?

What? You haven’t been there?

Well, I have.

My fiancé broke off our engagement and decimated my heart, so I moved to this tiny town called Wishing Rock, on Dogwinkle Island. (Once you’ve met Jake, you’ll find out what a dogwinkle is, if you don’t know already. It’s a funny story, actually. But I’m skipping ahead of myself.)

Wishing Rock is different: everyone in the whole town lives in one building. That’s right, everyone. All in one building. It’s cozy and quaint and everyone knows everyone’s business. Including mine.

But I fell in love with these people pretty quickly. Maybe you will, too. There’s Millie, who runs the post office and grocery store and writes the town newsletter. There’s Alexandra, who’s a psychic. (I know, I doubted, too. Maybe I still do. But regardless of whether she’s psychic, she’s pretty wise, and always knows the right thing to say.) There’s Erin, who’s been my friend forever, and who told me about the town. There’s Jake, who is… well, he’s young and handsome and smart, that’s all I’ll say about Jake. And there’s Ed, the grandson of the town’s founder, who’s always at the center of the town’s happenings.

It’s a small place, so we make our own fun. Hoedowns, a group trip to Scotland (you’ll get to meet my Gran, too; I want to be exactly like her when I grow up!), and potlucks — so many potlucks! I’ll share the recipes with you. These people know how to cook.

When you’re down, you need people to lift you up. The people of Wishing Rock opened their arms to me and lifted me up.

So now, I want to introduce them to you.

Come on over to Wishing Rock. And be sure to bring your favorite dish. We’re having a potluck, just for you.

Love,
Ruby
