The variety pack of gladiola bulbs I bought at Costco seemed to be less of a variety and more just a bunch of red gladiolas for about a month. It wasn’t until last week I finally saw a few blues, pinks, and whites starting to bloom a s well. I was delighted. So when one of the blue spears of blooms fell from its weight, I was quick to grab a stick to prop it back up. It was while I was in the process of propping it up that I was ATTACKED!! You just never know when wildlife will come for you. I froze in place with one hand on the gladiola, and the other on the stick while the beast approached. He came right up to me and looked me straight in the eye. He was a mere two inches from my face. He then turned towards one of the gladiola blooms and went in for the kill. Then he popped out and went into another bloom. He repeated this for three or four blooms while I held the plant up. After the last one he zipped right up to my face, stared me up and down, then moved on to the other gladiolas. I didn’t even notice I was holding my breath the whole time. I let out a big sigh, finished staking the plant and sat down at a safe distance from the humming bird. That little critter isn’t afraid of anything, or anyone. NO FEAR!

A masterfully told tale of passion, jealousy, heroism and betrayal set in the gruesome trenches of World War I.
It is September 1919: twenty-one-year-old Tristan Sadler takes a train from London to Norwich to deliver a package of letters to the sister of Will Bancroft, the man he fought alongside during the Great War.
But the letters are not the real reason for Tristan’s visit. He can no longer keep a secret and has finally found the courage to unburden himself of it. As Tristan recounts the horrific details of what to him became a senseless war, he also speaks of his friendship with Will–from their first meeting on the training grounds at Aldershot to their farewell in the trenches of northern France. The intensity of their bond brought Tristan happiness and self-discovery as well as confusion and unbearable pain.
The Absolutist is a masterful tale of passion, jealousy, heroism, and betrayal set in one of the most gruesome trenches of France during World War I. This novel will keep readers on the edge of their seats until its most extraordinary and unexpected conclusion, and will stay with them long after they’ve turned the last page.
