The mamma turkey that lives with her babies at city hall started off with about eight babies a month or so ago, and now she is down to two. UGH! I don’t even want to know. I love and hate the fact that I am so invested in the lives of the wild animals that live around city hall. From the turkey to the squirrels, and even the turkey vultures. I have gotten used to a bit of a routine and when you see the same critters walking around, you become a bit invested in their lives. Unfortunately they are still wild creatures and mother nature is cruel. I do not have time to be feeling sad for a bunch of baby chicks running around in the streets. I am still traumatized by the death of a turkey that I used to see on my way to work about twenty years ago. It was a funny pair of turkey that would hang out at a major intersection. One day I drove by and saw one of them had been hit by a car and lay dead, while the other stood by her friend and refused to leave her side, despite the cars honking and eventually having to drive around the pair. UGH!! I might need to start closing my eyes when I drive.
