I know I only post books that are on kindle, but I just had to mention a fun story I am reading online. It’s called The Ickabog, by JK Rowling of the Harry Potter series. She is only releasing a few chapters at a time, and as I write this, there are five chapters released so far.  I am really enjoying only being able to read a few chapters at a time. It leaves me excited to see what happens tomorrow. I only spend a few minutes reading each day, which is good because I could very easily spend all day every day reading. You all know how that is. I have work to do, and I would hate to fall behind on everything again over a good book. Okay, I wouldn’t hate it, but still… I am supposed to adult at least for a quarter of each day. Anywhoooo… check it out. It’s free and it’s fun.

As the fear of nuclear attack becomes more real than ever, the key to saving everyone’s lives lies in the courageous relationship between a shy teenager and his loyal dog.

Our planet is on the verge of World War III and a cloud of paralyzing fear is drifting in the air.

While the leaders of the free world try to find a solution to the continuing crisis, the voice of The Prophet — a mysterious figure that has gathered momentum in the last few years — becomes increasingly louder.

The lives of thousands have already been saved thanks to his appearances in the media during which he issues timely warnings against natural disasters and dangerous events.

Soon the investigator finds out the young man is hiding a dark secret of far reaching consequences.

When David’s secret is discovered by evildoers, he finds himself with his back against the wall, forced to demonstrate incredible courage in order to save himself, his loved ones, and the entire human race. But… will that suffice?

In 1954, as civil war looms over Guatemala, a startling discovery at an archaeological dig triggers a series of events that threaten the lives and well-being of three women.

Meg Fuente, the archaeologist’s American wife, is drawn to the camaraderie and idealism of a left-wing political group, but she recognizes that she might be putting herself in danger if the progressive government falls. Patricia, the headstrong daughter of a wealthy coffee planter, is determined to excavate at the Fuentes’ dig, but she must keep her labors hidden from her violent, right-wing father. And Noemi, a girl from a poor indigenous town, is able to stave off hunger thanks to her brother’s salary as foreman at the dig — but some of the town Elders see the excavations as an insult to their ancestors, a mysterious group who once lived in the valley where the dig is situated.

In a political atmosphere suffused with hatred and fear, a major archaeological find sets forces in motion that lead to shattering losses for the women. To survive, they must forge ties among family and friends and draw strength from centuries-old traditions.

A dramatic, finely-woven tale filled with riveting historical detail, Reading the Knots is set at a pivotal time in Latin American history, when the democratic government of Jacobo Arbenz came to a violent and tragic end.
