ON THE ROAD AGAIN! Just can’t wait to get on the road again… and right into another O’Reilly’s auto shop parking lot. Yesterday hubby was trying to show me how to hook up the car to the RV to tow. He asked me to grab the little wire under the dash, so I did. Apparently he didn’t like the wire I grabbed. “Why did you yanked the wire out??!!” he asked. I told him the wire was just dangling there. Apparently it shouldn’t have been, and we soon discovered that a fuse had blown as well. Maybe because of the wire. Who knows. Not a problem. Hubby bought a huge pack of spare fuses, that were right on the kitchen counter at home. Geez. Back to O’Reilly’s auto shop. It’s a little freaky that everywhere we go there is an O’Reilly’s. Are they stalking us? After 45 minutes in their parking lot messing with a loose wire and a fuse, we were back on the 101 north to Florence, Oregon. Unfortunately because of the delays we didn’t arrive here until 3:30. After getting checked in and settled in at the campsite, things were closing for the day. Plus it was going to rain soon. We popped into the car and headed downtown to get an ice cream and go for a quick walk along the pier. Super cute town. Today we are going on a sand dune tour. I picked the tour that has a touch of excitement, and is suitable for pregnant women. Perfect. I only want a touch of excitement. I have spent the last few days driving / riding down highways with cliffs. I HATE CLIFFS. I have been scared for three days, so a touch of excitement is just fine. I wanted to check out the Sea Lion caves, but the caves are closed for elevator maintenance. I hear there is a lookout we can still check out. I really feel that the way I planned this trip doesn’t give us much time to check out the sites. I really hope the lack of time is because we keep ending up at O’Reilly’s.

Kennedy’s novel moves quickly but deliberately. Flashbacks appear at all the right moments, and the novel’s ending is surprising and powerful — The Booklife Prize

When Cecilia Chandler kills a house intruder, she claims it was to save a life — but not her own. It was the life of her golden retriever, Ferris, a dog she’s only warming to after her husband’s death. If it had been up to her, they would never have gotten a pet.

Police Chief Holden Owens thinks Cecilia acted lawfully, but few agree. The law says that pets are property, and that one can’t use lethal force to protect property. Is his attraction to Cecilia clouding his judgment?

The prosecutor sees Cecilia’s case as his ticket to a better job. He has the law on his side, and a more personal reason to want to win as well.

Now, as the case draws to a close, Cecilia is finding she needs Ferris as much as he needs her. But will she be able to stay out of prison?

Saving Ferris is a story that makes us consider what, exactly, pets mean to us.

Although her heart belongs to an American GI, she honors her father by marrying a Vietnamese man. Her halcyon life unravels as the Vietnam War ravages her country and the threat of communism culminates with the fall of Saigon. Life in unified Vietnam under the new regime becomes unbearable. Betrayed by her husband and left with a dying child to raise, Snow must set aside her morals and push herself to the limit emotionally, physically, and mentally, to buy her way out of the country. Her decision to escape and find sanctuary in America takes her adrift in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand with her daughter, nephew, and other boat refugees. For days, they are at the mercy of pirates, storms, and dire conditions. Ultimately, Snow settles into a refugee camp on the island of Galang in Indonesia, but life there is deplorable.
