It was Friday afternoon when the fever returned and the chills started hitting. My oldest baby basset had been fighting a cold with a fever since July 3rd. Covid tests came back negative, so we thought it was just a bad cold. Home remedies such as tea and honey mixed with over the counter medicine was given regularly. He seemed to be getting better, except for the awful coughs. The cough medicine the doctor prescribed seemed to help a little. Last Friday the fever returned. He was not looking good. An appointment in the doctors office with x-rays explained the long sickness. Pneumonia. The trip is canceled then, right? The doctor said not necessarily. He can still go since the first few days he would be just sitting in a motorhome anyways. Umm… Hubby and I had no clue what to do.

This is the first book in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling Rose Gardner Investigations series.

She vows to leave investigating behind her and find her excitement in her landscaping business. No more dealing with the criminal underworld.
When Rose’s best friend, Neely Kate and usual partner in crime, suggests they help a local man find his missing necklace, Rose reluctantly agrees. She could use a distraction. But looking for the necklace throws them into the middle of a power struggle in the Fenton County underworld, one that could dethrone Rose’s friend, James Malcolm, a surprisingly moral king.
The last thing Rose should do is court more trouble, but she’s not the type to step away from a friend in need — and she’s not so sure she wants an orderly life.
