My youngest baby basset and I went to Target the other day with only one thing on the list, couch pillows. We just needed two pillows and NOTHING else. Get in, get out, and don’t get tempted by anything else. Right next to the carts when you walk in is the $5 section. I could tell this was going to be a challenge when I saw all the awesomely cute Halloween decor on the shelves just begging to hop in my cart. After a few seconds of cooing over the cute fuzzy pumpkins that were smiling back at me, I remembered this was not the $1 section anymore. It was $5 now! Two items no longer cost $2, but $10 now. Noooooooo. We parked the cart back at the cart corral and went into the store. No cart means I can only get what I can carry. Smaaaart! We quickly picked out our new pillows and checked out. I felt so brilliant and proud of myself for showing self control. I got home, put the new pillows on the couch and they look fabulous. My pup Rosey was quick to come and investigate the new additions. 5 seconds. That’s how long it took for her to discover the new buttons on the pillows. The reason I replaced the other pillows is because Rosey chewed them and ate the buttons. My feeling of brilliance left quite quickly. My new pillows so nice on the cabinet.

The Moral Gene (The Dawn: Rise of AI Chronicles Book 3)
by Ray N. Kuili
Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy

FREE for a limited time

Morality can be a murky area even for humans, let alone for artificial intelligence. What happens when AI tries to understand the difference between right and wrong, good and evil? And what could its conclusions mean for us?

Story three of The Dawn series follows Victor Siversky, a talented, outspoken scientist researching the biological foundations of human moral judgment. His project takes a sharp turn when a new-generation AI system gets involved, and a prominent journalist sets out to write a story about his longtime scientific rivalry.

More about The Dawn: Rise of AI Chronicles

When it comes to artificial intelligence, we’re no longer in a “what if?” reality. We’re squarely in a “now what?” world. From books to financial markets, from healthcare to research, the age of artificial intelligence has arrived. We’re in for a ride, and it’s anything but smooth. What will the world look like as we share it with the genie we let out of its silicon bottle? How will AI evolve? Perhaps, even more important, how will we?

The Dawn series tries to answer these questions in the language people have always used to model the future: the language of story. In a dozen intertwining stories, taking place in a slightly alternative present-day reality and its near future, The Dawn attempts to show how our lives, for better or for worse, will inevitably change with the arrival of AI. And it’s up to you, the reader, to decide how successful the series is at that ambitious task.
