My poor kitty has fluffed back up to a weight that most vets would consider unacceptable. As soon as we got his diabeatis under control, he went right back to being the little piggy he was before. I guess I would be fine with this, but one problem, he takes up way too much space on the chair where I rest my feet while I am at the computer. he will not sit in that chair any other time, except when I am sitting there and I spend the whole time fighting for space. I thought he just wanted to be close to me, so I gave him his own chair. Nope he want the chair my feet are on. It’s hard fighting for space with an eighteen pound kitty. I can only fight him off for so long. It’s not fair when your special power is being dead weight.

Benjamin Clymer’s Gift

Genre: Historical Fiction | Literary Fiction

A story about a good man whose legacy was threatened by treachery and deceit. Benjamin Clymer was a farmer whose wife taught him to read when he was twenty-three. Devastated after her sudden death and the death of their infant son, he abandoned the farm and took a job as a carver in a furniture factory. Alone in a room in a boarding house, reading became his refuge. Books transported him into other people’s worlds, allowing him to briefly forget his own loss. Years later an impulsive visit to a college gave him an idea for a unique memorial to her. In the spring of 1927, he went to see an attorney, Charles Gustafson, to have his will drawn. The attorney listened with amazement to Benjamin’s plan for his bequest. He had never met a man as decent and trusting as Benjamin, who believed without question that his gift would be honored if there was a proper legal document. Gustafson drew the will, insisting on a clause that Benjamin found objectionable. The clause gave Gustafson a weapon in his eventual shocking battle with a college president to honor the terms of Benjamin’s most unusual gift.

In 1964, farmer and part-time Constable Ned Parker combine forces with John Washington, the almost mythical black deputy sheriff from nearby Paris, to track down a disturbed individual who is rapidly becoming a threat to the entire small Texas community of Center Springs. When Ned is summoned to a hot cornfield one morning to examine the remains of a tortured bird dog, he finds a dark presence in their quiet community. A farmer by trade, Ned is usually confident when it comes to handling moonshiners, drunks and domestic disputes. But the animal atrocities turn to murder, and the investigation spins beyond his abilities. After a dizzying series of twists, eccentric characters and dead-ends, Ned’s friend, cranky Judge O.C. Rains, is forced to contact the FBI. Worse, sinister warnings that his family has been targeted by the killer lead Ned to the startling discovery that he knows the murderer very well. After the failed abduction of his precocious grandchildren Top and Pepper, the old lawman becomes judge and jury to end the murder spree in the Red River bottomlands. With a heart-pounding pace, country humor and a stunning climax speaks to the darkness in us all. In bald-headed pot-bellied Ned Parker, Wortham has created an authentic American hero who will put you in mind of the best heroes and antiheroes you’ve ever experienced. The year 1964 was the end of an era in Center Springs, and the climax may well shock your civilized sensibilities.

“Tahrir” is a fictional narrative about the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 and based on the real life experiences of the author at that time. Set in the midst of the struggle to overthrow Egyptian Dictator Hosni Mubarak, it’s a story about people who strive for change and who protest against the authorities. It not only speaks of the struggle for freedom, but also of the many individual and differing lives that united to enable it. A love story is the pivotal part of this book. The love affair between a woman, who joins the revolution and is swept away by ideas to change the world, and a man, who is a firm believer in peaceful and evolutionary solutions to social conflicts, is tested by a turbulent sequence of events. Vivid descriptions of Egyptian nature, architecture, traditions, food, the Egyptian way of life and the revolutionary atmosphere and protests allow the reader to submerge themselves in this exotic country and be an intrepid traveller, witnessing unprecedented events. Meticulously researched and exquisitely written, hope and sadness, love and loss are intermingled in this book – a book that will make you laugh, cry and want to take to the streets – and will make you question everything you know and everything you hold dear.

Phoebe Sherwood is in love with the perfect man. Well, except for the fact that he’s in love with someone else. But Phoebe isn’t the type to let a little detail like that keep her from getting what she wants. And as she’s plotting how to get him back, she meets the perfect solution — Joe Spencer. The city boy is in town to retrieve his sort-of fiancé — the woman who stole Phoebe’s man — and when he hears Phoebe’s plan to reclaim their respective soul mates, he’s in. Bright and sparkly. That’s Joe’s first impression of Phoebe. He’s always been attracted to sparkly things — like neon casino signs, sequined evening gowns and Porsches. But if he’s going to win his girl back, he’s going to need to learn a new way of life. Country line dancing, guzzling homemade moonshine and getting rid of his custom-made suits are what it takes to fit into Sapphire Falls… and he’s got some work to do. Thank goodness Phoebe is the perfect coach. And everything will be just fine… as long as they can keep their hands off of each other and remember which hearts they are trying to win over.
