I feel like a slow moving mad scientist. I put rusty horseshoes in my hydrangeas to turn them from pink  to blue, but they have turned white and it has taken about 3 months to see the effects. Too much horseshoe? See… sometimes my titles make sense.

Penny is a perpetually perky writer of Christian romance. But after reading one too many negative reviews of her writing, she snaps.

AUTHOR’S NOTE:This is a short story. No, I mean really short. It’s so short that I may even remove it from publication after the free period is up.This story was written with every author in mind who’s ever gnashed their teeth at a review that says something like, “I hate this book” without giving an actual reason for hating it.It is, in short, my own personal venting session. But hopefully, you’ll find it slightly humorous, maybe even entertaining. If you do, please feel free to leave me a review.I promise not to take any criticism too personally.;-)

Appalachian Carnival
S.M. Fernand
4.5 Stars (8 Reviews)
Genre: Coming of Age | Literary Fiction

FREE for a limited time

May Day, 1970… Annabelle Cory—a comely nineteen-year-old, disheartened with her West Virginia coal-town life—meets Walt Ryder, who runs a game in a traveling carnival and wins a date with her after the show closes. Abandoning all caution for her shot at adventure and romance, she goes with Walt to his hotel bed, and the next night leaves home with his carnival.

Narrating her tale of the following week, Annabelle’s voice is laced with mountain dialect and carnival jargon, yet woven with language begotten from her love of reading. Her love for Walt takes wing amid blind lust, spiraling in and out of her heart as she follows him into the razzle-dazzle world of McCain’s Magic Midway.

Appalachian Carnival tells of a time when showmen were in cahoots with the local law, a time when psychedelics were taken for trips inward. S.M.Fernand, in each chapter/day, alludes to aspects of a Tarot card’s archetypal symbolism—the story shape-shifting to allegory.

Annabelle, seeking her liberation amid a caravan of carnies, rolls the dice to win a ride on the wheel of fortune, and finds herself awakening within the soul of all.

Highland Sons: The Mackay Saga
Meggan Connors
4.1 Stars (9 Reviews)
Genre: Anthologies | Romance

FREE for a limited time

Two stories, centuries apart, connected by legacy and love . . .

BANE’S BELIEF

Kenzie McCleod thought the witch-hunting frenzy would never find her in the Highlands. Her un-natural connection to animals and her bothersome beauty could be hidden, as long as she and her mother kept to themselves. So what had prompted her to accept the invitation of the compelling, and wickedly handsome, Laird of the Mackays?

Laird Bane Mackay knows he should marry a woman of his clan, but none have sparked his curiosity like the black-haired lass with the winning smile. Why can’t he ignore his attraction to this unsuitable stranger whose haunting violet eyes and strange abilities make him rethink magic in the world? In following his heart, he may very well bring the wrath of the Witch Pricker (hunter) down on them all.

WANDERING HEART

Sharing a soul-searing kiss with the most devastatingly handsome man she’s ever met was not part of Fiona Keenan’s plan. Neither was stealing an ancient family heirloom out of his pocket.

When Cameron Mackay decides to pursue the ring, neither one of them is prepared for what happens between them. For, in a rough and tumble mining town, where everyone is a fortune hunter and a gambler, love might just be the one risk no one is willing to take.
