It’s July and the fog is thick this morning. I know it will burn off later this afternoon and then it will be bright and sunny. This couldn’t be more perfect because if it was bright and sunny in the morning I would be out in the yard working. Instead I am enjoying a cup of coffee and the Sunday Comics and Coupons. Nice!

Alaska State Trooper Liam Campbell, demoted and reassigned to the remote bush town of Newenham, literally steps off the plane into a murder scene. Dealing with death is never simple, but when the woman leaning over the body proves to be Liam’s old flame, it’s evident that his new job is about to become much more complicated. Of course, small town tensions tend to simmer just beneath the surface, and murder, once done, has a tendency to happen again.

“What were you intending to do with Mr. Engebretsen, Bill?”

They both regarded the bound man for a moment. The bar watched and waited in silence. “Well,” Bill said finally, “I was thinking about supergluing his shooting hand to one cheek of his ass and his other hand around a beer bottle.”

Liam stared. She appeared to be absolutely serious. He opened his mouth, and she said, “He drinks too much, does Teddy. I’m not totally unfeeling—the bottle of beer will be a full one, but after it’s gone, that’s it.”

“I like it,” the Old Fart said, and grinned evilly when Teddy’s eyes bulged over the edge of the gag.

“Or we could just shoot him,” she said, and raised the .30-06 to work the action. She gave a satisfied nod. “Plenty of ammunition. Course at this distance I really only need one.”

This is the first novel in the Liam Campbell series.

Noble Vision: A Novel
Gen LaGreca
4.4 Stars (99 Reviews)
Genre: Medical | Political

The story begins with beautiful ballerina Nicole Hudson, who rose to Broadway stardom from a heartbreaking childhood. She is stirred by flowers and letters from a secret admirer who is inspired by her dancing. His letters hint at a great aspiration he has and at his despair over obstacles thwarting him.

Her secret admirer is David Lang, a young neurosurgeon with a medical breakthrough—a way of re-growing damaged nerves to cure brain and spinal-cord injuries. David’s frustration arises because his experimental treatment, which he believes to be safe, requires approval from New York’s health system, CareFree, a bureaucracy wracked with cost overruns and other, politically motivated priorities. To David’s despair, it will take years for him to get through the red tape.

Then an accident happens that will change life as they know it for David and Nicole. She suffers a devastating injury, and her only hope is David’s new cure. She never imagines that the neurosurgeon treating her is also her secret admirer.

What will happen when David is forced to take on the whole system—and the powerful, unswerving official who runs it—to fight for his work, his ideals, and the woman he loves?

A revolutionary medical breakthrough, a poignant romance, and a bitter conflict with the law converge in one explosive case.
