He knew something was up when I didn’t put the kids in the car like I usually do when I take them to school. Jethro hesitated to get in the car when he realized he was the only one going for a ride. The smile on my face was too big, I acted over enthusiastic and my voice was too high. He actually gave me a suspicious look. I think I heard him cursed a little when we pulled up to the vets office. Tricky momma…tricky tricky momma.

Harkening back to the writing styles and small town settings of earlier American authors – John Steinbeck, Harper Lee, and Carson McCullers – “Only the Truth” is a psychological mystery with as many twists as the country road leading to the humble home of Billy Ray Hutchins, a lonely uneducated man living in the hills of Arkansas. Life changes little for him from day to day until he brings home a young drifter he meets at the railroad tracks, the mysterious Charlene, whose last name he never asks. He becomes her Sweet Billy Ray and his love for Charlene is steady and uncomplicated until the sheriff shows up to take her away in handcuffs. With the only woman he has ever loved behind bars for the coldblooded murder of the old man across the road, a confused and devastated Billy Ray sets out on a quest to find the truth, only the truth, whether it leads him to be able to save his Charlene from a death sentence or it frees him from her spell.

“Using wit and romance with a master’s skill, Kasey Michaels aims for the heart and never misses.” — Nora Roberts

“There is so much wit and wisdom in the pages of INDISCREET that you’ll be filled with wonder, and giggling all the while. Kasey Michaels returns with all the hallmarks that have made her a Regency romance treasure: humor, unforgettable characters and a take on the era few others possess. Sheer reading pleasure!” — RT Book Reviews; Nominated for Best Innovative Historical Romance, 1998

A Note from Kasey:

“In 1998 I was so ready to write another Regency historical, INDISCREET fairly flew from my fingertips onto the computer screen. And I had a ball! I had been so engrossed in history and wanted a break from more serious topics, so I wrote myself a romantic farce (I always write for me, what makes me happy at the time, figuring if I like it maybe someone else will, too).

Indiscreet has, according to reviewers and readers, one of the funniest Prologues in fiction. Even I still giggle a bit when I think of it!

But there’s a serious side to this romantic farce; two people who think they know who they are, what they want … and then get smacked in the face with the realization life doesn’t always fit into neat little boxes.

As I said, I had a grand time writing INDISCREET, and revisiting the book to prepare it for its e-book version delighted me all over again. It’s a good rainy-day-and-I-feel-blah-and-need-to-laugh book. Enjoy!”

Fondly,

Kasey

Marvin’s Book: The Story of a Professor and a Promise
M Soldani Lemon
3.8 Stars (21 Reviews)
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs | Humor & Entertainment

FREE for a limited time

Have you ever made a promise that dogged you through years, nagging you silently?

Melissa Soldani Lemon did in 2000 when her student, Marvin Mark Scott, died in a single-car accident on the way to school. In her grief, she reached out to the young man’s family and promised to write a book for Marvin and start a scholarship in his honor.

Ten years, two children and many semesters of teaching college history later, Melissa had amassed a growing following of readers for the hilarious stories on her blog, but no book had yet emerged. She finally sat down to fulfill her promise—only to find herself facing new raw grief in the unexpected deaths of a colleague and another student, both of whom had encouraged her to fulfill her promise.

Now she was really stuck. How could she write Marvin’s book when she only wrote stories with happy endings?Melissa’s journey to answer that question takes us on a roller coaster ride through a year of new students, service projects honoring United States veterans, office hours, exams and graduations as she interweaves inspirational stories with outrageously funny bloopers taken from real student exams. In the end, it is a student veteran “exiled” in a VA nursing home who leads her to find a bright and hopeful ending to this story.

You will laugh, cry and rekindle your belief in the power of intention as Melissa turns the promise of a book for Marvin into Marvin’s Book: The Story of a Professor and a Promise.
