I’m sorry, but I have to do it. I have to mow the clover patch in my front lawn. I was all worried about the bees and wanted to give them whatever they needed to thrive, but then I realized something. Half a block away is a park filled with clovers. We are talking mass amounts that would seem like heaven to a bee. While my clovers looked like a tiny truck stop on the way to Disneyland or Costco, whichever. I will be planting more bee friendly plants along with the chicken herb garden, so I think I am okay to mow the clovers down.  I will be sure to shoo them away first.

Join the story in progress…

It’s 2015 and the Mars Curiosity rover rumbles along the crusty surface of Mars. On-board cameras detect something shimmering on the horizon. Engineers re-direct it to go investigate. When it finally arrives, the cameras capture shocking images of five-fingered fossils embedded in a mysterious boulder. Just as Curiosity attempts to transmit the high-resolution images, the power cuts out.

This discovery falls into the lap of an embattled American president who’s not afraid to use it to save his imploding campaign. Next to winning re-election, what do the lives of a few astronauts matter?

Ride along with Captain Adam Alston and his ragtag crew as NASA is plunged into a race to the Red Planet with little time to spare. The troubled astronaut Adam takes on the mission to save his family and his failed career; perhaps not in that order.

Nothing can prepare them for the split-second back-stabbing decisions they’ll have to make. Will a new breakthrough technology get them there in time? Will they find out the origins of the mysterious fossils?

“This enjoyably light-hearted fantasy novel, trading on romance and humor abetted by magic, demons, witches, and spells tells the story of a naïve young Brit, Paul, who summons a demon with a spell he finds in an old book. Instead of getting a demon to serve as his personal slave, he gets Scarth, an irritating, stupid, voraciously hungry creature who loves ice cream but also consumes people. Paul quickly realizes that Scarth is not what he wanted and attempts to send him back. However, he is confronted by Lord Roath of the Inner Circle of Pain, Destroyer of Peace, Crusher of Souls. Lord Roath explains that he has the right to refuse to take Scarth back and Paul is stuck with him for the next 500 years or so. Paul heads to London, hoping to find someone who can help. It’s going to take a lot of help, but Paul finds it in “Dumpster,” a Pub’s arm-wrestling champ, Vanessa, a Wicca, and ebullient professor “Oz” Dawkins. What follows is a series of amusing adventures and misadventures that lead to a dangerous attempt to return the irritating but endearing Scarth — all of which may result in Paul’s exile to the underworld. This debut is reminiscent of Piers Anthony’s Xanth series (minus the puns) but with much the same adolescent innocence confronting adult situations.”

The Young Demon Keeper is a darkly humorous fantasy novel set in modern-day London.

When Paul summoned a slave demon to do his every bidding, he thought it would be really cool.Instead, he got Scarth, a hybrid that was as magical as a damp sponge but not as intelligent. His only talents seem to be invisibility and to eat: toasters, gravel, furniture, but especially ice-cream.Oh, and people.

Featuring demons, trendy priests, garrulous occult bookshop owners, muggers, publicans, evangelists, porters, witches, and wizards.

Oh, and then there’s the really strange characters.

This psychological suspense follows forensic psychiatrist Kate Myers who believes the killer of two teenage girls in Bigler County, California, is the same man who savagely murdered her twin sister over fifteen years ago. Working with a single-minded tenacity, she sets out to prove it.

Deputy Sheriff Ben Slater hides his personal pain behind the job, but Kate’s arrival in his county knocks his world on its axis and makes him believe in romance again. He wants to believe her wild theory, but the idea of a serial killer with the kind of pathology she proposes is too bizarre.

Together they work to find a killer whose roots began in a small town in Bigler County, but whose violence spread across the nation. A Janus-like killer, more monster than man, he fixates on Kate and wants nothing more than to kill the “purple-eyed girl again.”

As this crime thriller builds to a conclusion, Kate finds herself in grave danger, while Slater uses his forensics skills to discover who the madman is and where he’s taken her.

Still Alice: by Lisa Genova | Summary & Analysis

This is a Summary & Analysis. Award-winning author Lisa Genova’s Still Alice, adapted into a movie, offers a sentimental tale of the loss of a great mind to Alzheimer’s. Heavy with emotional impact, it provides a useful insight into the workings of an uncommon form of an all-too-common disease, pointedly marking off its horror and tragedy.

Genova’s novel relates the story of prominent scholar Alice Howland as she is diagnosed with and suffers the effects of early-onset Alzheimer’s. Narrated from her perspective, it chronicles her navigation of her changing circumstances and the ways in which those close to her respond to her. As such, it presents an inside view of an unfortunately common disease, doing an admirable job of portraying the degeneration of mental powers without losing intelligibility for those readers who, hopefully, have not begun to suffer the same fate.

This companion of Still Alice also includes the following:

• Book Review

• Story Setting Analysis

• Story elements you may have missed as we decipher the novel

• Clear, concise description and analysis of personalities

• Summary of the text, with some analytical comments interspersed

• Thought Provoking /or Discussion Questions for Readers & Book Clubs

• Discussion & Analysis of Themes, Symbols…

• And Much More!

This Analysis of Still Alice fills the gap, making you understand more while enhancing your reading experience.
