I had the most glorious thought the other day while I was searching through a few movies to watch. I came across a movie called The Purge. The premise is that for 12 hours anything that is illegal is legal. Of course chaos ensues and people die. I am thinking a little less horrific for myself. I would like to pretend that I won’t try to have New Years Resolutions, but we all know I can’t resist a good resolution. I do them every Monday, so with a few hours left in 2016 I want to give myself permission to do whatever I want. Guilt Free. Anything I want…. What the heck is all that white noise? Wait.. I also hear a bit of ringing… SERIOUSLY!?? I just gave myself permission to do anything and I can’t think of a single thing? I went about this all wrong. I’m going to deny myself permission and see what I come up with. It works on my kids all the time.

An antique mahogany campaign writing box is purchased from an old man at the Dirt Market in Beijing. A gold bishop’s cross is found inside a secret compartment, long hidden since the last days of the Boxer Rebellion in 1900. At the centre of the cross is a large Columbian emerald, said to be cursed. In another secret compartment there is an unfnished letter telling of a brass chest containing church treasures and relics looted by the Boxers. The chest had been liberated from the Boxers by a captain of the Bengal Lancers and buried by him somewhere in the city once known as Peking. The captain had written to his wife telling her of its location, but the letter never left his writing box. After discovering its contents, the two Australians who bought the box return to China in search of the chest, hoping against hope that its hiding place has not been disturbed by the frenzy of development that has recently overtaken Beijing. But others have learned of their quest and, in the cold mist of Beijing’s winter, what had seemed like a simple task back in their leafy riverside Brisbane suburb, has now become a deadly game.

Star Watch
Mark Wayne McGinnis

Genre: Science Fiction
FREE for a limited time
Join the Star Watch crew on their first mission to the planet of Trom, where hostile Pharlom invaders have appropriated high altitude cloud-ports as prisoner of war camps. As a fierce battle in space ensues, fragmented warships fall into Trom’s atmosphere and head right for a populated cloud-port.
From best-selling author Mark Wayne McGinnis comes the highly anticipated Scrapyard Ship spin-off series, Star Watch. The Craing War is now over… the enemy defeated. As planetary systems around the galaxy try to bring normalcy back to their existence, one thing becomes crystal clear… without the Craing around to keep everyone in line, space has become a far more dangerous place. With tens of thousands of warships idle, along with hundreds of thousands of Allied crew personnel sitting on their hands, it’s up to Admiral Perry Reynolds whether or not to send the combatants home, and mothball most of the ships. But as more and more requests for prompt Allied assistance come in from the farthest reaches of outer space (i.e. for minor incursions into sovereign territory; or others, more serious — including barbaric planetary invasions), Admiral Reynolds is compelled to introduce a new stellar over-watch program. With his own career winding down, one of his final directives will be in the formation of a special intergalactic marshaling service… Star Watch. The admiral has the perfect ship lined up for the task — the most advanced warship in the known galaxy: the mile-long Caldurian vessel — the Minian. Next… he needs to outfit the ship with a captain and crew he can trust to get this far-range venture initiated properly. Across the galaxy, young Boomer, daughter of Captain Jason Reynolds, begins her training in the ancient fighting methods of the Kahill Callan, and prepares to battle against Lord Vikor Shakrim — leader of the dreaded Sahhrain warriors.

The Life and Times of Bud Coleman of Jefferson County, Alabama: Book One: 1929-1978
Bill Coleman
(2 Reviews)
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs | History
FREE for a limited time
I began writing “The Life and Times of Bud Coleman of Jefferson County, Alabama,” soon after my father died. The book was easy to write because my father accomplished so much in life. From growing up in a junkyard in Powderly, Alabama, during the Great Depression to the founding of two large communities in western Jefferson County, a chain of sixty-five video rental stores, and numerous other retail establishments, my father was an eyewitness to history. I was there for much of it, and for the parts that I wasn’t, my father was never reluctant to tell me about it. The first of two books, Book One covers life in Powderly, Alabama, just after the Great Depression, the development and operation of Coleman Lakes and Rock Mountain Lakes in western Jefferson County, Alabama, in the 1950s and 1960s, and life in the suburbs of Birmingham, Alabama in the early 1960s. There’s a lot of history in this book that can’t be found elsewhere.
