Happy Halloween Eve! There are bats all over the walls and ceilings in my house and I am ready for them to go. I love my Halloween decorations, but October is such a crazy busy month, I am very much looking forward to the ease and quiet of November. What I am NOT looking forward to is my youngest baby basset and his friend’s Halloween costumes. They are all going to be the killers from classic horror films, such as Jason Voorees and maybe Freddy Krueger, all costumes with masks. I have a fear of clowns as you know, and a lot of that fear has to do with the face being covered or painted. I hate not being able to see a person’s face. Tomorrow they will be running around my house for a good five hours or so. UGH. OH MY GOLLY! I just got an idea. I am going to jack the heat up in the house and make it very uncomfortable for them to wear a mask. BWAHAHAHAHA! brilliant!

Anne is wracked by guilt at her failure to save her friend, Susan, who vanished one night soon after her release from jail. The evidence suggests she has returned to the place where she and her lover parted, she chose him and the crocodiles over life. She was in advanced pregnancy with twins and so three people are gone.

Anne has her friend’s story, her voice on a tape is the last fragment left to her of a vanished existence. She must tell this story so that the world can know of this lovely brave girl who seems forever lost. And the families of the other four girls want their stories told too. She has the man’s diary, which tells parts, but there is much that makes no sense. It reveals another shadowy girl who may have gone too.

She travels to the places from where they have come and were last seen in search of answers. She faithfully records each story, five or even six lost girls, each girl gone, nobody knows where. As she searches patterns emerge which help to explain the why and some of the how, but not where they are now. Almost certainly some are dead, but could some still survive..

She is determined not to surrender all hope that at least one or two may yet be found alive. After a year nothing has been found. She must put it behind her and try to get on with her own life, but guilt and hope keep driving her on, searching still.

Genre: Fantasy | Mythology & Folk Tales

He’s sugar. She’s spice. He’s ice cream. She’s cupcakes. He’s human. She’s a witch. They both have secrets. Is this a recipe for disaster or true love? Cindy Eller is a young baker with a brilliant gift for imaginative flavor profiles, and another gift for Magic. Though she comes from a big family of powerful witches (only don’t use that term to Cindy’s mother), Cindy herself is a bit of a Magical dud. She can add a little something special to her baking, but that’s it. And then there’s Cindy’s private life. She never can seem to get it off the ground, and if she ever does make a connection with a man all it takes is one kiss and POOF! He turns into a toad. Some are big toads, some are small, some are cute, and some are slimy, but they are all toads. Cindy has no idea why this keeps happening to her, but it’s been the one constant in her life since high school. It’s pretty much impossible to stay in a relationship with a toad, so she just has to wait until they change back into men and run screaming away from her and her mixed-up Magic. Just as Cindy is set to get her bakery really moving, Timothy Borden walks into her life. She promptly, and literally, falls head over heels for him. Deep down, she’s convinced this might be someone special, the “right” guy, the man who wouldn’t turn into a toad if she ever kissed him… She just has to give it a try.

The Twin Paradox
by Charles Wachter

Genre: Thrillers | Action & Adventure | Science Fiction

FREE for a limited time

With ten years passing for every three minutes on a remote stretch of Texas coast, planes fall out of the sky, evolved species are on the hunt, and people die inside one of the most vicious ecosystems ever grown — all a result of the government’s efforts to slow down time.

A lot can happen in ten years. That’s the point. Governments are always racing for supremacy, for scientific breakthroughs, for technological advantages — and these things take time.

Until something goes wrong.

With the grounded yet massive world-building of READY PLAYER ONE, thrilling scientific questions of JURASSIC PARK, and the time-bending teen drama of BEFORE I FALL, Wachter’s THE TWIN PARADOX is a brilliantly plotted tale that is both intimate and massive, relentless yet deliberate, and explores the themes of self-acceptance, self-confidence, and natural selection in a richly hued and unforgettable world. Ultimately the eternal question of Nature versus Nurture is boiled down into this fast-paced thriller told over the course of five days and culminates in one single question:

Do we get to choose who we are?

GERMANY, 1945

The year is 1945. Germany is on her knees. The Allies are streaming into Germany from all sides. The end of World War II is near. Even so, some of Hitler’s most secret plans are beginning to yield success. Some of these plans are familiar; some are not. Some are lost; others live only to rise again. It is a massive secret. One largely unknown to the Allies until well after the war ends. It is a secret that could potentially destroy the world’s economy regardless of the war’s outcome. It is the Third Reich’s most closely held plan; even more secret than the German nuclear or rocket propulsion programs but as threatening nonetheless.
