So the big decision is, do I want to make a New Year’s Resolution? Hmmph. I did what I did last year. My New Years Resolution had an end date that was manageable. It was the generic lose weight and be healthy, but I only committed to two weeks or something like that. I did it and I felt great. I can’t really go the diet route this time because I started my diet on November 6th and have been very successful at it. I know I lost weight, but I have no clue how much. I never weighed myself because I just couldn’t stand to see the number. My clothes are fitting much looser, so that is the best evidence for me. My goal is to get to a certain hole in my belt. After that I will weigh myself. So what is my new goal for the next two weeks? I think it is to have fun. Be spontaneous. Oh my gosh… that sounds so hard. Luckily I have hubby to help me. I will just tell him my plan and he will make it happen. I just have to commit to saying yes. Dieting sounds easier.

Saddle the Angry Wind
by Larry D. McDonald
4.7 Stars (70 Reviews)
Genre: Historical Fiction | Westerns

FREE for a limited time

A historical tale of life in northern Missouri at the end of America’s Civil War, and further onward into the 20th Century. It is the account of two young Missouri boys, Jim and his cousin Johnny, forced by the storm of a civil war into situations and decisions beyond their years. They have both lost their fathers to guerrilla raids, and they have only Jim’s Uncle Bert as a father figure to raise and advise them. Living within the backdraft of Bleeding Kansas, the American Civil War, and Missouri’s precarious position during this brutal conflict, Jim and Johnny adapt to their new position and lives within this new country, even as Quantrill’s disciples continue to terrorize northeastern Missouri.

“Saddle the Angry Wind” painfully reminds us of a time when much of America fought for its survival against guerrilla warfare, bank robbers, Bushwhacker raids, Road Agents, cattle & horse thieves, crooked banks, and general lawlessness at the hands of its fellow citizens. Death – both violent and natural – was always present and there to be dealt with. But it was also a time of a nation healing, and the hope of life perhaps continuing on…

LIFE’S SHORT WHEN COMPARED TO ETERNITY, BUT ETERNITY IS ONLY WORTH IT BECAUSE OF LIFE.

Clive Kinsella lived a good life. He had a family who loved him and he was never without a job, a place to live, or a warm meal. But Clive died unfulfilled. Despite all his gifts he could only see what he didn’t have. He never wrote for a big newspaper in a big city. He never traveled the world. In fact, he never got out of his small Southern town. And… he never faced the ghosts that haunted him.

At his own funeral Clive meets Pachu, his grandfather who had died years before, and with Pachu he begins a journey through his life where he has to finally face his greatest regrets and agonies. But, if Clive can’t overcome his regrets he’ll be forced to wander the place between Heaven and Earth. Each day Clive revisits events in life in a sort of spiritual recording, the same events that took him from being an optimistic young man to a curmudgeon.

For every day he overcomes he gets to visit a place on earth he never saw before, and the reader is taken to places like Half Dome in Yosemite and Venice, where Pachu and Clive discuss existence and the meaning of life. But if Clive can’t overcome his greatest regrets he’ll be trapped in the in-between as a ghost.
