I don’t know what Google Gods I pissed off on Friday, but they did my so wrong. You all know about my fear of sharks? Well I equally have a fear of riding in a car (not driving, just riding), and with cliffs it is 100 times worse. Last Thursday night we decided to take a last minute camping trip to a new place about an hour and a half away. HOW EXCITING! I know darn well that Google knows everything about me. It starts advertising things to me before I even know I need it. So when we Googled directions to the campsite it had two options. The first option was to give us the directions that was a 45 minute drive on the highway and about 30 minutes on a straight country road. The second option was an hour and a half of the curviest road that was ALL cliffs and up hill both ways. Guess which road it suggested. As you can see we made it there alive. After I was able to calm down, I can for sure say it was worth it. The campground had amazing views and wonderful campers. Everyone was so friendly! We are not usually Winter campers, but I might convert.

Survival in a brutal world demands more than courage. It demands a choice.

Thousands of years into a distant future, Earth has transformed into a vast desert, and society has regressed.

When Jake, a son of the Heaven Dominion turns sixteen, he must join all the other young men his age in the arena, where sword fights will decide his faith. Whether he becomes a soldier or a slave worker in the mountain quarries, his loyalty and his soul are pledged to the God King, the sacred savior of the Dominion.

The God King’s mission is clear: annihilate the sinister Kingdom at the border and uncover the elusive Relic hidden in the mountains. Only the fortunate few immune to a mysterious disease get to live beyond thirty, and for many, life is a relentless struggle toward an early grave.

A quest across the desert will uncover ancient secrets, forge unshakable friendships and raise uncomfortable questions. But even though turning sixteen leads to a savage dance in the arena in order to avoid lifelong toiling with a pickaxe, being young and full of life also means that the laughs are just as sharp as the swords.

In a world where trees are mere legends, age is a ticking clock and fate is a gladiator’s blade, someone must rise against the tyranny of the God King and his minions.

Jake and his friends must rewrite the future as his destiny awaits to unfold in the midst of a fractured society – and nothing will remain the same.

Perfect for fans of The Hunger Games and A Game of Thrones, this gripping tale of courage, adventure, love and a touch of the supernatural will keep you eagerly turning pages.
