I am not sure who is having more fun, me or my sweet chickies with the new chicken run. Since I have so much more room to move around and I can actually stand up, instead of crawl around on my hands and knees, I have been putting new little features for them to play on. I have added tree stumps with bridges between them and a huge piece of drift wood, that I collected twenty years ago and have finally found a use for.  The chickies love hopping on it and pecking at the bugs that live on it.  I will also add edible plants once the threat of frost has passed. I do not like the danger of having an open top, so I was thinking of adding a few shiny strips of paper or old cd’s to blind any hawks that decide to perch on the fence. The tree gives them quite a bit of protection, but not completely, so I still have to work on that a bit. In the meantime I am having a ball watching the ladies play around in their new playground.

The Romney and Marsh Files now number six (nearly seven). They don’t have to be read in order; they do all work as stand-alone novels. However, to get the most out of each it is recommended that they are consumed in the order in which they were prepared, a bit like the courses of a good meal. (Who wants to eat ice-cream before a bowl of soup?)

The Eagle And The Tiger

“The Eagle and the Tiger is a compelling, powerful novel about the brutal, sometimes compassionate relationships between our own American soldiers in Vietnam, as well as their enemy, the Vietcong. The storytelling is so vivid that I felt I was in the jungle marching with the grunts or in heat of battle with bullets whizzing by my ears. The political statements are both justified and sometimes shocking as they comment on the government, as well as our military forces. I especially liked the way the book smoothly transitions between the relationships of Americans soldiers and the Vietcong, telling us both sides of the story. I highly recommend The Eagle and the Tiger, especially for our younger generation so they can form a better understanding of the Vietnam War.”

Bill Fleming’s first day with the 173rd Airborne Division in Vietnam was a memorable one.

Fleming had once been a promising pitcher for the White Sox, but he decided that serving his country was more important than his love of baseball. Joining the army for a four-year enlistment, it started out as smooth sailing.

However, his time overseas in the war proved to be the kind of experience that defined a generation. Fleming came to hate the war, yet was entrapped in the insanity.

And in this insanity, lives were lost and dreams died.
