Enjoy these awesome Kindle books I picked out this morning. I am off to drag my baby bassets to picture day at school and get their new class schedules. I have my little black comb in hand! I would never actually use it, but it’s kinda fun to reminisce about the days when they were in grammar school. Fancy hair, special shirts, and the “Don’t play or run around at all until after the picture is taken” rule. Now days they just roll out of bed and hope they are in a clean shirt. Ahhhh… the good old days.

Genre: Fantasy | Romance

Immortality isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, especially for the 3,375-year-old virgin of Mount Olympus. Day after day, the God of Love launches his arrows, then watches from the sidelines while everyone else has all the fun. On a mischievous whim, Cupid sends a love-tipped arrow into the wrong rump — and the gods sentence him to a taste of his own medicine.

Banished from the only home he’s ever known, Cupid plunges to Earth and lands in present-day Tarra, Indiana, where mortals go on about their daily routines, oblivious to the capricious gods stirring the pot from above. Delighted to discover his wings and pubescent pudge have been transformed into a magnificent human body, Cupid swiftly leaves his virginity behind.

But his carnal spree is cut short when he falls passionately in love for the first time in his immortal life, and he understands the full measure of his punishment: he must find the Right Love match for the mortal he desperately loves, and then he must let her go. Caught between two worlds on a quest to fix Love, Cupid must survive the violent throes of his own coming of age and triumph over the powerful gods conspiring against him. Failure will not be tolerated; success will cost him everything.

First Quiver, book 1 of the Cupid’s Fall series, is an irreverent, contemporary twist on mythology and the struggle between duty and love, a battle as old as the gods themselves.

The Roll-Away Pumpkin
by Junia Wonders, Daniela Volpari
4.3 Stars (1,465 Reviews)
Genre: Children’s eBooks

FREE for a limited time

A wonderful & whimsical autumn tale!

Multi-award-winning author and illustrator team delight young readers with a rollicking sequencing story.

When a large pumpkin gets away from its young owner, Marla, an amusing and lighthearted pursuit ensues. As it rolls down country roads, through a farm’s haystacks, past a milkman and his cart, over a stone bridge, through a city’s bistro, and past a butcher shop, readers will enjoy as each subsequent person joins in the young girl’s chase after the runaway, rollaway pumpkin, making for a silly procession that gets even sillier when the group encounters a marching parade. A pleasing ending has the ever-growing group enjoying a cauldron of pumpkin soup.

With stunning illustrations in beautiful muted earthy tones, many small details make each spread a delight in poring over — a dog with little sausages in its mouth, street signs that point “this way” and “that way”, a tiny windmill in the distance, leaves fluttering down on the country road, fresh baguettes stacked up in the baker’s wagon. A wonderfully lilting text is beautifully typeset in a fun and whimsical way, curving along the streets and alleys. A repeated refrain throughout the story adds a fun opportunity for young readers to chant along.

A short and simple story, The Roll-Away Pumpkin is a perfect read-aloud for families and educators of young children, while its highlighted keywords, repetitive language, and predictive nature make it ideal for beginner readers.

Something smells rotten in the Cheddar Haus.

Colby Jackson is supposed to be a reporter, not the manager of a cheese shop. But after losing her job and moving halfway across the country to live with her wealthy half-sister, she finds herself running a cheese shop in a small town on the coast of Maine while she figures out just how to get her career back on track.

However, that plan is immediately derailed when she finds a dead body inside the shop. Especially because people in town are quick to pin Colby as a suspect.

There are plenty of others in the tiny town of Bayfield who might be capable of murder: an ex-wife, a mysterious cheese buyer, and even Colby’s own half-sister. Colby might not know the first thing about selling cheese, but she knows how to sniff out a story, and she’s determined to use her reporting skills to figure out who the real killer is.

Because someone definitely had an ax to grind.

And that same someone just might strike again.
