Halloween decoration are popping up everywhere around the neighborhood. Am I falling behind? I don’t think I am. Am I?? Noo. I wasn’t going to put anything up until October 1st. Costco has these huge 8 or 9 foot tall zombies that have been flying off the floor for the past month. I am not a gory zombie kind of decorator, so no temptation there. But I know they are extremely popular this year, so they will be in every neighborhood. Where are these people storing these things? I haven’t bought or made any new Halloween decorations yet. I just haven’t been in the mood or inspired. Maybe I need to watch a few classic Halloween movies and get in the spooky spirit.

The FIRST offbeat mystery in the TUBBY DUBONNET series by Anthony- and Edgar-nominated author Tony Dunbar. A simple man with a refined palate, maverick New Orleans lawyer Tubby Dubonnet has a penchant for fishing, Old Fashioneds, off-track betting, and fighting evil while passing a good time.

His clients are all renegades from the asylum (aka Orleans Parish), including a transvestite entertainer, a buxom deadbeat blonde, a doctor who refers his own patients to a malpractice lawyer, and a Mardi Gras reveler who drives a float shaped like a giant crawfish pot. He also has his hands full with an ex-wife and three teenage daughters, who are experts in the art of wrapping Tubby around their little fingers.

And somehow, between work and family, Tubby finds time to sample the highs and lows of idiosyncratic Crescent City cuisine, from trout meuniere amandine and French roast coffee with chicory to shrimp po-boys and homemade pecan pralines. Tubby’s new client is Darryl Alvarez, the manager of a local nightclub who’s been caught unloading marijuana from a shrimp boat.

At their first meeting, Darryl entrusts Tubby with an ordinary-looking blue gym bag. But after Darryl’s unfortunate demise, Tubby realizes he must tighten his grasp on the gym bag — and its million-dollar contents. Tubby can’t just give up the cash. But if he gets caught, he’ll be in jail. And if the wrong people catch him, he’ll wish he was.

Marry a McDade. That’s the order Cyrus Doherty gives his only daughter.

The bloodbath that claimed the lives of Whisper’s brothers put the Doherty share of the city’s business in jeopardy. Her father’s way to remedy that is to form an alliance with their enemy.

To prove to the McDades that the Dohertys intentions are true, Whisper’s father sets her up to marry the arrogant, bullish, inconsiderate man they call Razer.

The problem is, Whisper Doherty isn’t exactly known for playing nice. Finding her place in the McDade ranks won’t be easy. Especially when she can’t seem to stop sassing everyone. Other McDade women might be happy following the rules, but Whisper is no pushover.

Her husband’s issues collide with her own and combust into something neither of them expect. It’s a power struggle. A war within a war and she will not surrender.

But the bride has to deal with more than just her domineering husband. Her new father-in-law, the McDade patriarch, believes everyone is beneath him. Burl McDade expects everyone to bow to his will and that’s just not Whisper’s style.

Making an enemy of him pits her against the McDade-Doherty alliance. Burl demands her submission; Whisper will not yield. She’s on her own… or is she?

Avner Ehrlich, the Mossad’s “operator,” is inserted into Tehran, on a mission to eliminate Professor Hamdani, a senior Iranian nuclear scientist. His task becomes increasingly complicated, and Avner is called to abandon his mission and return to Tel Aviv. But, being Avner Ehrlich, he decides to ignore the command and stay on course.

A violent battle develops in Hamdani’s home, in the center of Tehran. With Ehrlich’s gun pressed to his head, Hamdani’s son comes running in and hangs desperately onto his father. Ehrlich lowers his weapon and retreats into the darkness.

In the debriefing at Mossad headquarters, Ehrlich takes responsibility for the failed mission and is suspended from his position.
